I was on the other end of that bunker. And that's where I got the other Purpple Heart. If you'll remember we didn't quite get that bunker finished, we only had one layer of sandbags on top. And talk about short I was leaving that morning! I believe it was ssg. yawkey (maybe) of 3rd platoon told me to mount up we were going out. And I told him WE wern't going anywhere. So he told me we'll go see the ole man about it and I told him i'd meet him at the the capt.s tent. Well he fired that big boy up and out the gate he went. Good Times....I think.?

WOOHAAA....Something just dawned on me... That Commo Track... That was the track that i saw the medics take David Ex out of.... Didnot realize at the time that he was gone....... RIP David

Hey Guys....if i knew how to downsize my photos for this site, i would send you folk a photo of Sgt K.(got a couple of them).... Yo Larry..i never knew You were in the same same bunker that we were in.... Liver,i never saw the guy wire incident, for i was on the other side facing the wire with barefooted beck and that M-60 that He miracously showed up with. Do You Guys remember Ole 6 foot sumthing Pruitt laying face down having a one on one talk with God during the whole thing???? Crazy stuff man.....

Thought I'd mention,I was a short timer... Had 4 days left after 4 years in the Army when those mortars started walking in...Charlies' April fool huh?! When I finally made Phan Rang, I was listed as MIA! Luckily they hadn't sent the news to my folks yet. I heard Sgt Kofalvi made Sgt. Major and retired in Wiesbaden and was teaching there...but I'm not sure if he's still around caduse he was a lot older than us kids!

Yea that was me Larry. I actually I got it goin' both ways...I got runnin' out to the guy, who I had no idea who it was, but as I ran by the track, the guy wire caught me right across the neck, and I saw my feet in the air and felt the pain, and of course the ammo dump was goin' up and I thought I took something across my neck and got slammed down on my back. Then I focused on the twanging wire. I got up and got to the body and grabbed his shoulder and it woke him up and there we were...eye to eye...He hopped to his feet and dashed for the track and I headed back to the bunker. Took that guy wire across the neck again, but this time I knew what it was and bounced back up off my butt and beat feet for the bunker. Got hit with a shard of metal just as I dove back into the bunker. Still limping!

I was in the bunker at A troop compound that night. There was a communications track between that bunker and the ammo dump. I remember someone yelling at the cptn. and they run out the end facing the supply building to try to save the captain but clothes-lined theirself around the neck on a support line holding up an antenna. Who was that? Wasn't funny then and it ain't now but I gotta laugh.

I just read of the passing of LTC. Robert G.Bond. Col.Bond was a true gentleman when he signed my get outa Nam papers in his office on April 1st/ 70. In the heat of the battle we had a quiet moment where he wished me well, in spite of my checkered military records. He also shook my hand, which my Captain (A trp)would not do, even after I saved his ass in the ammo dump. I remember winding up in Col.Bonds'office after a harrowing hitchike from the ammo dump to HQ perimeter.
Got strafed by jets with 50 cal. running for the front gate when the red flares went up inside. At 500 mph they must have thought I was charlie chargin'the perimeter all alone. I know they could'nt see that all I was carrying was the barrel of my M-16, which with my boots,trousers and a t-shirt was all I came outa the dump with. My condolences to Col. Bonds family and friends.
