I spent the largest portion of my career in 2/1 Cav. F Troop, A Troop and HHT. Started out as a 11D then 11C. Served from November 1974 to 1978 - 1983 to 1991. Went with 1/7 Cav to the Strom and proudly wore the 2nd AD patch while attached to the 1st Cav. Retired in 1996 and now I reside in Gatesville just outside of Fort Hood. 2/1 Cav is now and will always be in my heart as well as all of you 2/1 Cavers. Courage and Faith.

I would suggest a good task for the 2/1 Cav: Help us vets that are disabled and fu*#ed up with PTSD and Agent Orange crap to get our disability benefits. I read about 2 troopers that had no records kept by 2/1st in the recent newsletter. Just like me. Hell with reunions, lets take care of brothers that served and had their lives screwed up 40-43 years ago in hell. What say lifers????

i am with ya on that bro. i have severe ptsd, herbicide exposure, many health problems associated with nam. but, of course, the V A is denying any of it is related to the tour. been fighting em for 2 years or better over it. my best advice is order of the purple heart, disabled american vets[dav],american legion, vfw. or your local va. i have an NSO working on mine. has gotten me 30% disability on ptsd and says ill get more. feel free to contact me if i can help in any way.

I attended the 4th div. 1/12 Red Warriors reunion in KC June 24-26. My best friend was killed on 6-5-'69 while in this unit. I brought home his remains. I was an airborne grunt attached to the 2/1st in "A" Trp., 68-69.
I felt at home with the grunts from my friend's unit. Never been to a 2/1st reunion. Was never mechanized. We cleared the mines in the road, changed the tracks, swept the jungle on foot and went on patrols.
Best to all 'Nam brothers.
2/1st did not keep records of our actions and my wounds. Makes it impossible to get comp from VA, even though sick and disabled for 42 yrs.
We never quit..............

My father, Herbart Baldauf, was in Troop D. He attended the reunion in 2006 at Gettysburg with my mother. He passed in August of 2007. I was so happy to see pictures of him. He would talk about the reunion and how much it helped to see his fellow soldiers. I believe it helped him immensely to heal his wounds. Thank you and God bless you!
