I am looking for anyone who knew my brother, Gene Crawford who served at Fire Support Base Trooper, "C" Troop 2/1 Cavalry from Sep 1969 - Sep 1970. He was wounded when tracked vehicle hit a mine. He said was evacuated to Japan where he and others told them to "shove it" when handing out Purple Hearts. As such no record of Purple Heart on file. Gene died May 2, 2014. I am trying to gather information that may be of help in getting the medal he earned. He was from Montana.

Sir,
Trying to find those members who can and want to assist in a humanitarian effort to locate the grave(s) from the 4/1/70 battle.
This effort stated in 10/2016 and we have to date provided the locations of approx 5,500 remains of our former enemy to the VN Gov't and Military Representatives.
Allowing those MIA Families the closure they too deserve.
Info on the this effort has also enabled us to receive info from former VC on two graves each containing two American soldiers. The first grave was excavated approx 3 months ago.
This link is to an article written by the Phila. Inquire in 9/2017
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/special_package/How_a_Google_Earth_search_led_a_veteran_back_to_Vietnam_to_track_down_mass_graves.html
I have already tried to reach out to Tony Dodson since he lives within 15 miles from but to no avail.
The DoD and Dept of State are aware of our effort and I have established contacts in both Hanoi's and Wash. MIA Offices.
This effort is strictly humanitarian. I only seeking out info pertaining to the graves location.
Most of us have tried to forget all or part of our tour.
But neither the Families in VN or the US have that as an option.
Please pass this email and the link to those members who were there.
Sincerely,
Bob Connor

Hello,
My father, Bruce Barlow, served with the Blackhawks in 69-70 and I am trying to find out more information about where the unit was located during that time as I am planning my first trip to Vietnam at the end of next week and primarily want to see the places where he spent time. I know there was limited time in Pleiku and then time in Phan Rang and Phan Thiet, but I am interested in any information at all.
Unfortunately, Dad passed away just before Christmas 2015 due to a number of things they think were caused by Agent Orange. I would really appreciate any information at all if anyone sees this.
Thanks so much.

Looking for details of the Battle at Song Mao 4/1/70.
This link will detail how & why this project started.
http://www.philly.com/philly/news/special_packages/How_a_Google_Earth_search_led_a_veteran_back_to_Vietnam_to_track_down_mass_graves.html
Since this started we have provided information of approx 5,500 remains with an additional 800+ spread out over 5 different battles.
With the help of a former helicopter pilot. We search the sites for battle details then try to reach out to soldiers who were there to help pin point the grave(s) actual location. The Vietnamese prefer us to seek out two such witnesses.
In addition we have 3 former VC and 1 NVA helping us to find between 9-13 US MIAs. One grave has already been excavated that is supposed to contain 2 US Army soldiers.
For the American witnesses they seem to all agree, doing this is putting a positive end to an ugly war.
The VN witnesses come to us directly vs the Government because they trust us. They have seen or heard of the Inquirer article or have heard the BBC News taped interview in Vietnamese.
All of these MIA Families deserve closure.
Please let me know.
WELCOME HOME!
Sincerely,
Bob Connor

Your history page failed to mention the 2/1st was a basic training squadron in 1966. I took basic at Ft. Hood C troop 2/1, March - May. Then AIT 1/50 before deployment to the 24th ID (Mech) in Germany. Most of us in that cycle eneded up on a troop transport as replacements for the 24th. Many were from both the 1st and second AD. Never met anyone else (other than us) that took basic and AIT with regular Army units.
